UGU Athletics Club (UAC) has assembled a group of runners to undertake the pilgrimage to Pietermaritzburg for the Mandela Day Marathon on Sunday.

The 42.2km race finishes in Howick and the club is sending 34 athletes, of those, 12 will take part in the marathon, 18 in the 21.1km half-marathon and four in the 10km race.

UAC head of athletes, Eddie Ramaloo, told athletes that the course is tough and must be treated with respect.

“There are many hills to climb especially the deceptive hill known as the ‘Struggle Hill’, which stretches for 16km,” said Ramaloo.

He also reminded athletes that the mandate has always been clear and it is to enjoy the race and finishing it.
