Barricade the lagoon

2017-01-12 06:01

WITH the water test results for the Uvongo lagoon now released and the Ugu municipal manager quoted in the local press saying the lagoon was “very, very highly contaminated with E. coli”, I contacted Sbu Nzimande, the acting municipal manager of the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality, requesting him to immediately barricade the lagoon, place more “swimming prohibited” signs and place a law enforcement officer there to prevent the public from swimming in the lagoon.

He agreed to this additional safety measures as swimming was prohibited there a long time ago.

The municipality will also do their own water test of the sea before taking a decision to close the beach or not.
