‘Beauty pageant of hope’ next month

2016-09-29 06:00

RIBBONS4Roses, a non-profit organisation that assists children with cancer and learning difficulties, has a fund-raiser coming up on the lower South Coast.

It will take the form of a beauty pageant at San Lameer on Saturday, 15 October.

The CEO of the organisation, Ampie Fourie, who is from the rural town of Touws River, had two young brothers.

One of them died of cancer at the age of four and the other was diagnosed with autism at the age of two.

This affected the family’s lives as their business and home had to be sold to find a facility that could educate her brother.

Fourie started Ribbons4 Roses in 2011 and dedicated it to help children fighting cancer, those living with autism, down syndrome and those with disabilities.

Although the organisation is based in the Cape, people all over the world assist with fund-raising, including Australia.

In 2014, the organisation started it’s first beauty competition to raise funds for a little girl, Tiana Leigh.

So far R6 000 has been raised and local woman Ulrecka Joshua and Denzille Reddiar, now head the KZN pageant.

“I am very excited to be a part of this fund-raiser and am looking forward to meeting all the beautiful young women who enter,” said Joshua.

Tickets to the event costs R150. Email ujoshua642@ gmail.com for more details and to enter.
