Blinkered view fails to recognise lawless ANC creations

2016-08-25 06:00

I REFER to the general view that the ANC’s declining support is due largely to the indefensible behaviour of Zuma.

However, let it not be forgotten that our president already had hundreds of corruption charges against him when the ANC promoted him to his current position, and that the ANC has supported and defended him, together with a multitude of other selfish, corrupt and incompetent cadres. Clearly it follows that the ANC and its supporters are collectively responsible for the disastrous state of our country. Zuma and his like are creations of the ANC, not aberrations.

About eight years ago, deputy president [Kgalema] Motlanthe said: “Nobody defies the ANC and gets away with it.”

Well, in government double-speak, surely we must take it that ANC has not “been defied” by those who have “got away with it.”

That’s why it’s a blinkered view that fails to recognise that Zuma is merely one of the most prominently lawless creations of the ANC.

The ANC has nurtured and protected him and his cohorts no matter their sins, venality or incompetence. There are no detractors surviving in the ANC because those who have dared to point a finger must, in plain-speak, be the ones to whom Motlanthe referred when he said that no one will defy the ANC and get away with it.

That’s also why we are at last emerging as a real democracy that begins to recognise the insidious danger that has festered in what was until recently an effectively one-party state.
