Burger outlet staff reach agreement

2016-06-09 06:00

RECENT reports indicated that Wimpy, Margate Beach staff had not returned to work after protesting and have been at home waiting for an agreement to be reached.

Last Wednesday the staff, their union Saccawu and the employer met to discuss working conditions and came to an agreement that the staff return to work and all issues would be resolved by the union.

Shop steward, Teddy Truddy Mzobe said all is well and they are happy with the agreement reached.

Mzobe said she would like to correct what was said in the last report, which said they were forced to return to work.

“We were never forced to return to work. As employees we were tired of striking and being at home for over three weeks so we decided to meet with our employer and our new union, Saccawu, and come to a mutual understanding that if we continue to strike our jobs would be at stake,” said Mzobe.

Mzobe said they joined Saccawu because it showed an interest in resolving employees’ grievances.

She said employees agreed to cancel their membership with Ucimishawu and join a union that places their interest first.

Mzobe said they thank Saccawu for their intervention and hope that unresolved issues will be dealt with accordingly.
