Cansa campaigns all year round

2016-01-28 06:00

CANSA lower South Coast has a number of events organised for the year.

The community can get involved by either supporting these campaigns or becoming a volunteer to assist with the activities.

The Sun Smart and Environment campaign runs from January to February when Cansa will visit schools during break times to demonstrate and encourage children to use sunblock.

“We would like to set up a gazebo and provide pupil’s with sun screen to encourage them to protect themselves when out in the sun,” said Sesethu Senene of Cansa.

Schools can also purchase a Nivea sun screen dispenser to be placed in each corridor or within four of five classrooms.

“This is also so that children put on sunscreen when they are going out for their breaks. This might be also be beneficial for pupils who play sport,” she said.

Shavathon also takes place in February and schools, businesses, organisations and the like are encouraged to participate. Visit www.shavathon.org.za for more details.

Relay For Life is also another campaign the schools can support; both teachers and pupils. Visit www.relayforlife.org.za for information.

March and April is all about leading a “balanced lifestyle” due to the fact that South Africa is becoming an obese nation.

“During this month we try and encourage people to take on a balanced lifestyle. Cansa would love to do a talk at the school about this and the importance of having a balanced lifestyle. Obesity in young children and teenagers can lead to a lot of illnesses,” said Senene.
