Chamber calls for show of interest

2016-08-25 06:00

THE South Coast Chamber of Commerce and Industry is inviting non-governmental, community and religious organisations to express interest in an upcoming indaba.

The indaba aims to find ways of better aligning the needs of these organisations and assisting them with donors, among other things.

The chamber’s president, Vijay Naidoo, said while its core mandate is to represent the interest of its members, the welfare and support of the greater community must always be considered.

“The support and generosity of the business community, in times of disaster and misfortune, is widely acknowledged, however, the support of local businesses in support of organisations in need outside of these crises, is often overlooked.

“The chamber has determined that in providing this support, there is often a mismatch between the needs of these organisations and the donors.

“There is often a great deal of duplication and misalignment as well,” said Naidoo.

He said some of these issues can be addressed by improving the match between the needs, donors and organisations, better sharing the burden with businesses, aligning the corporate social responsibility spending of companies with the needs of the communities and building more effective partnerships.

Emails to show interest in the indaba can be sent to president @sccci.org.za with your details and areas of operations by no later than Friday, 26 August.
