ALTHOUGH there is an increasing demand on social services Child Welfare Port Shepstone continues to render the much-needed services to the community.

Speaking at the welfare’s 18th annual general meeting chairperson Basil Naidoo thanked the managing committee members who volunteer their expertise.

“We have excellent expertise within the managing committee and the staff manage to find amicable solutions to turn our situation around,” said Naidoo.

He said the welfare offers 27 services to children under the age of 12, including counselling, the running of holiday programmes, assisting the homeless and more.

In total Child Welfare Port Shepstone covers 55 areas with just seven social workers, two of whom are part-time.

There were 362 cases registered from April 2015 to March 2016, ranging from neglect, abuse, abandonment, placing of children and others.

The welfare also engaged in numerous national awareness campaigns and ran awareness programmes on teenage pregnancy, drug abuse, and the like, at many schools.
