Comrades - fewer than 3 000 entries available

2015-11-26 06:00

NOVICE Comrades runners aspiring to be part of the group of runners who will be awarded their green numbers for completing the race 10 times at the 100th edition of the Comrades Marathon in 2025 will need to run their first Comrades next year.

The Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) have announced that entries for next year’s “down run” will close as soon as the cap of 20 000 entries has been reached or within the next week.

More than 17 000 entries have already been received.

The 91st edition of “The Ultimate Human Race” will see athletes from nearly 70 countries converging on South Africa for what has been dubbed “the greatest foot race in the world”.

CMA race director Rowyn James urges aspiring Comrades runners to enter as soon as possible so they don’t miss out the entry deadline.

James said in a statement on Tuesday: “Entries are coming in thick and fast, and runners hoping to be part of the 91st Comrades Marathon are encouraged to get their entry in this week.”

The world’s greatest ultra-marathon will be run on Sunday, 29 May, 2016. Being a down run, the race will start outside the Pietermaritzburg City Hall at 5.30am and finish 12 hours later at the Sahara Kingsmead Cricket Stadium in Durban.
