DANCE Line Studios members welcomed home Noel Roos, who recently came second in the World Dance Masters Championships 2016 in Blackpool, at Winter Gardens, earning himself a silver medal.

Roos, originally from Port Elizabeth, was welcomed at the Margate Country Club last Wednesday, who told guests he had to enter and get through two competitions to qualify for the world champs.

“I had to enter two competitions to qualify for the worlds, which I did.

“I was one of 27 South African participants and second in the Open Male Line Dancing category.”

Line dancing is a choreographed dance with a repeated sequence of steps.

Roos was raised on the South Coast and began dancing as a hobby 12 years ago, and 10 years ago he started competing.

“We cha-cha, rumba, among other dances, the only difference is that you dance alone,” he said.

He also has a dance studio and says his eldest dancer is 83 and the youngest is seven.

Roos encourages dancers to believe in themselves and says if they truly love what they do, they will get far.

“Dance, and dance with passion,” he said.
