Double murder on Margate beach over girl

2016-04-21 06:00

A FAMILY on the Margate beach on Saturday said they were shocked to see two young men stabbing each other to death.

Lungile Mkhize of Gamalakhe was on the beach with friends and family and witnessed a group of young men carrying a large knife chasing a boy.

“Our hearts jumped from shock and we screamed at the top of our lungs telling them to stop.

“We then saw a young boy behind the group holding his neck with blood gushing out of his mouth. He then took a couple of steps and was on the ground,” said Mkhize.

Mkhize said they tried calling an ambulance but could not get hold of one.

One of the boy’s friends tried to stop the bleeding, but it was too late, he was already dead.

Margate police officers have confirmed the incident and after questioning it discovered that the fight was over a girl.

Captain Gerald Mfeka said when police arrived at 5.25pm after receiving a call about two dead people, they questioned a witness who saw everything.

Mfeka said not far from where the first body was found police were told that the man who had been fighting with the first deceased had also died.

“Margate detectives are investigating a double murder,” said Captain Mfeka.

Mfeka said both bodies of Samkelo Ngcungama (25) and Bongumusa Vincent Shezi (30) were taken to Port Shepstone State Mortuary.
