Double-murder suspect arrested

2017-02-16 06:01

A 19-YEAR-OLD man was arrested for the murder of his mother and sister in Thokotho, Gcilima on Wednesday.

SAPS spokesperson Captain Gerald Mfeka said Margate police received a call that two bodies had been found at a house in Gcilima by a domestic worker and the suspect has been apprehended by the community.

Mfeka said officers found the bodies of a 34-year-old woman and a seven-month-old baby who had both been stabbed in the neck. He said the suspect was then arrested and a double-murder docket was opened.

“Mfeka said allegations suggest that the suspect got into an argument with his mother while she was getting ready for work and he then stabbed his mother and baby sister,”

The suspect had previously been arrested for housebreaking and claims that he had a mental condition had not been confirmed.

“In his previous arrest the suspect was claimed to be mentally challenged and was taken to a mental institution however, he was later released back to the police after observations proved he was not mentally challenged,” said Mfeka

On Monday Mfeka said the investigating officer took the docket to court as the suspect is still in a mental institution for examination.

“The investigating officer took the case docket to Ramsgate Magistrate Court for the suspects next appearance as he was booked into a mental institution for two weeks to examine his mental state,” said Mfeka. - Supplied.
