THE second annual South Coast Xtreme Enduro was a massive success with over 200 riders riding into the amazing Lake Eland on Friday.

The tracks were set by master Track builder and Track Director Brett Redman, Brett a six-time South African MX Champ in the 80’s has a life time of experience on motor bikes.

Following in the footsteps of his dad Jim Redman eight-time World Super Bike Champion.

“With the support of the Oribi Farmers Association, we were privilege to work with the likes of Gary Neethling, Matt Flanagan, Matt Langton, Sean Flanagan, Gary Dunstone, Mark Dunstone and Byron Neethling we thank you guys massively for your support,” said Klint Mills of Powasol, the main sponsor of the event.

Powasol Eventing set up tracks for the PeeWee Class as well as the bronze (Juniors/Ladies), silver and gold.

Riders set off in rows of six starting with gold riders, down and into the valley of Mahlabatini Bronze track about 23Klms and the silver/gold around 43Klms.

Bronze and Junior 85cc Class riders had to finish two full laps to confirm a finish where Ladies, Funduro and 65cc Class riders only one.

The silver/gold Track was tough and gruelling for most, silver riders needing to complete one lap and Gold two. Then to throw in a curve ball the Titanium Challenge which saw only one rider partake.

In 2016 it was Jason Munro but in 2017 Wesley Finch stepped up to the challenge.

A gruelling nine hours on the bike in extreme conditions is not for the faint hearted, Wesley crowned Titanium Challenge winner for 2017 gave him the bragging rights of taking the beautiful hand carved Eland Trophy plate made by Africarve as well as a brand new High Pressure Cleaner courtesy of Industrial Supply Company Port Shepstone.

“Our PeeWee riders were amazing. Children from the bare age of five years old hoped onto there bikes with gumboots, jeans and a helmet then those more fortunate all the very best of riding gear money can buy.”

The top 3 in the PeeWee Class:

1st Tyler Smith - Team BP Quarry / Security Superstore (Midlands)

2nd Cohen Cameron - A1 Hydraulics Rocket Racing (Midlands)

3rd Scott Spencer - Team BP Quarry / Security Superstore (Midlands)

With only one entrant on a PeeWee 80, Tristan Kuhn took the win. (South Coast)

The Junior 65cc and 85cc both packed with some of the best Juniors KZN.

The Junior riders rode the same track as our Bronze Class riders, some of these youngsters proving that they can compete with the adults even if they have smaller wheeled and horse powered bikes. We look forward to the season unfolding, we think that the championship will prove to be very exciting as the months pass.
