THE Lower South Coast is preparing to host the first event of its kind, the annual Spring Food and Wine Tasting Experience, which will showcase a number of wine exhibitions, tasting and food pairing.

The event will be held at Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre on Saturday 29 October and aims to tackle an emerging market as there is evidence there is a lot of interest in the love for wine in this area.

Organiser Mildred Dlamini says they are expecting between 2 000 and 3 000 people.
“We believe in promoting emerging SMMEs by providing exhibition stalls and to market their products to an untapped market,” she said.

The event will also benefit local tourism product owners as visitors from other parts of KZN and provinces are expected.

“Some of our objectives are to inform and promote everyday healthy living lifestyle through food and wine, to increase yield from food and wine tourism, to increase visitor satisfaction with food and wine experiences and to increase interstate awareness of the quality, diversity and accessibility of wine regions and food tourism experiences,” said Dlamini.

The target market is the food industry, hospitality students, graduates and professionals, wineries, wine farms, restaurant owners, distributors and wine lovers, SMMEs and potential businesses, tourists and working-class citizens in and within the Lower South Coast, KZN and Eastern Cape.

Food and wine tasting stands will be open for only two hours, the pairing of wine and food, prepared by the chefs.

Exhibition stands are limited to 123 under a white frame marquee at R1 500 per 3mx3m space partitioned with speed fencing only. Cash bar and restaurant will be available to serve light meals, wines and cocktails.

Tickets from Computicket at R150 per person. They will also be available at the gate. For more information, call 039 315 0420. - Supplied.
