WHILE Southport police were busy with a stop-and search-operation in the Sea Park area last Thursday, they went to a compound and found a person in a room with several cellphones in his possession.

When proof of ownership of the cellphones was requested, he told police that he was repairing them for other people, but could not produce any receipts.

At the time he was sitting on his bed and when police asked him to stand up, he hesitated and became aggressive.

It was then discovered that he was sitting on a laptop concealed underneath him. He could not produce any receipt for the laptop either.

“He also could not produce any legal documents to be in South Africa as he is a foreign national. He was arrested and detained,” said police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

Southport police are investigating a charge of possession of suspected stolen property as well as a charge of contravening the Immigration Act in conjunction with Home Affairs Department. Investigations are continuing.

Anyone who recognises any of the items, should contact Detective Warrant Officer Henry van Vuuren on 039 681 9900.
