G1 Crew founder, Sbu Makhanya, and his friend Sbu Chiliza visited three Gamalakhe primary schools last Friday donating school packs to needy pupils.

Makhanya said the aim of this initiative is to give back to the pupils of his former primary schools - Ensimbini and Gamalakhe LP.

He said he chose Sethembinkosi Primary as the third beneficiary school for his programme because he did not want the school to be left out as some of its pupils also come from disadvantaged backgrounds.

“I decided to start this initiative and continue with it annually as a way of giving back to the community and the schools I grew up in,” said Makhanya. He got assistance from friends and community members who purchased some of the required items and is grateful of their generous donations.

Makhanya dressed five pupils from each school, who were identified by teachers.

In his school packs are shoes, socks, shirts and shoe polish and brushes.

Sethembinkosi Foundation Phase Head of Department Mathuli Gcwensa spoke on behalf of the teachers.

“A very big thank you to Makhanya and all those involved in the projects. We hope that next year more sponsors will be involved so more pupils can benefit from this programme. There are many pupils who come to school in need of new items, especially now that uniforms are so expensive,” said Gcwensa.
