ANOTHER very busy month has gone by at Hibiscus Kennel Club, culminating in the Lions Show where members put their dogs through their paces in both agility and obedience with the help of our super carting dogs.

They say in the movie world that dogs and children are very difficult to work with as they need to be given new challenges constantly to keep them focused. We challenged our dogs and they were amazing, considering the strange environment, the excessive noise and the throngs of people.

When they faltered it was because we had not given clear instructions. Agility produced a few surprises when Georgie the boxer decided to go over the chute and not through it but she thoroughly enjoyed her run. Bondi the Border Collie was on top form and designed her own course but to see the enjoyment this dog gets out of agility makes it all worthwhile.

The dogs enjoyed the Flyball and Jodie the Border Collie was disappointed to be called away from the demonstration - “why only two turns?”

The display stand inside the tent received many enquiries as well as people stopping for a chat. After all we all have the cleverest dogs. We thank the Lions of Port Shepstone for giving us this opportunity to showcase our work and for the understanding of our concerns for our dogs. We need shade and a secure place away from the crowds and they understood.

The following results are from the show held on 10 July:

Sharon and Derman and Charlie three first places.

Gaby Frey and Scooby two first and a third. Kylie one first and a second and KT a first.

Billy Anne Engelbrecht and Gunner a second place and two third places. Anne Shaw and Romulus two firsts and Bodi a third. Jenny Robertson and Jodie two firsts. Karen Salhus a third with Cajun and a first with Pooh Bear and Tracy Norton two second places with Georgie. Beryl Verwoerdt took home a first place with Poet and a second with Spice.

Congratulations to Tracy Norton and her Boxers who are doing so well at Obedience and Companion classes. They are taking home scores of 81% and 84%

Our next show will be a Margate Kennel Club Show at the Port Shepstone Borough Field on Sunday 14 August. This will be a bumper weekend as on the Saturday 13 August the club will host a mock show with tunnel mania 36 weaves, an obstacle course among others to raise funds to assist Ninette Smith with her forthcoming trip to Spain where her and Swish, who is now a Kusa champion, will compete in the Agility World Championships. Congratulations once again to this team. Please note that as from 6 August the club will move into winter training times starting at 2pm.
