High-speed car chase in Murchison, car seized, suspects flee

A HIGH speed police chase just before midday on Tuesday resulted in the recovery of a stolen vehicle in Murchison.

SAPS spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid said police received information about a vehicle which had four occupants and was travelling along the back roads at Oribi flats near Murchison.

“Port Shepstone K9, Ezinqoleni Police and Harding responded soon and the vehicle was spotted on the road,” said Wiid. They tried to stop the vehicle but the driver speed off. She said during the chase police, established that the vehicle was reported stolen in Cato Manor near Durban in July this year.

“While the car was still in motion one of the passengers jumped out of the rear, waving a firearm and started running,” she said.

It is alleged that when the vehicle approached Murchison Taxi Rank all suspects left the car and fled on foot. A police helicopter was called to assist in the search for the fleeing suspects but they were not found.

The car was impounded at the SAPS pound and various items including clothing, coins, food, cigarettes, a bolt cutter, a knife, cell phones and pepper spray. The investigation is continuing. – Supplied.
