NETCARE Margate Private Hospital is pleased to announce a new obstetrician gynaecologist, Dr Shavershree Govender who joined the hospital team from the June 1. Dr Govender comes from Mediclinic Pietermaritzburg, and is currently available to help patients at Netcare Margate providing a wide range of obstetrical and gynaecological services.

Dr Govender has a keen interest in gynae oncology (cancer) screening and surgery, as well as laparoscopic surgery and has she obtained her diploma in fertility and reproduction from the University of Kiel, Germany.

She was born and raised in Pietermaritzburg, and after finishing high school at Raisethorpe Secondary, she obtained her MBChB from the University of Natal and went on to obtain her specialists degree at the tender age of 29. She served at Edendale State hospital for two years and then served as acting head of department in oncology at Inkosi Albert Luthuli Hospital for 18 months, before relocating back to Pietermaritzburg to join the Mediclinic family in private practice.

She and her husband Mellin Moodley become parents to Dax Shavi, who has just turned 21 months and has been the key reason for the family’s relocation to the South Coast. Dr Govender is an avid fisherman and enjoys the outdoors. She is passionate about quality care and in continuing the tradition of excellent service to the women she is privileged to serve.
