KWAZULU Natal MEC for Health Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo was in Margate recently to launch the district health council and for the “nurse-initiation and management of anti-retroviral treatment” (Nimart) documentation session. This was done to showcase the experience of nurses who have been trained to initiate clients on anti-retroviral treatment.

The first session was to launch the Ugu District Health Council which promotes co-operative governance, ensures co-ordination of planning, budgeting, provisioning and monitoring of health services that affect residents of the district health for which the council was established.

District health council member representatives include councillors, local government managers, the Ugu health district manager and the Ugu health district planner.

Certificates were issued to all council members.

There are more then 76 000 people on the Art programme in Ugu and the number is escalating due to the Nimart programme.
