Merlewood development proceeds

2016-05-26 06:00

A PROJECT progress report on the Merlewood Mixed Income Housing development, was formulated at a recent meeting between residents and the project steering committee.

The purpose of the forum was to update beneficiaries on the progress of the development.

After a 20-year wait, about 60 beneficiaries were handed the keys to their homes last year.

The next phase of the construction is under way and the completion date has been set for September 2017.

“There have been a few hiccups along the way. There is still no electricity in these homes, but this will be sorted out in due time,” said ward councillor, Ajith Rajaram.

He said a new contractor took over this week as the previous one was not keeping up to the work schedule.

“The old contractor was slacking. This has caused a further delay in implementing electricity,” he said.

He said although the public is upset there is still no electricity, he urged them to be patient.

“I often hear rumours about this development.

“I urge residents to attend meetings and get the correct facts,” said Rajaram.
