2016-03-10 06:00

THE visit by Hibiscus Coast Municipality mayor and her team was viewed in a positive light by Merlewood Primary School as plans to rebuild the school have been given the go-ahead.

Mayor Nomusa Mqwebu, the Department of Education (DoE) circuit manager Rajan Naidoo and Selvan Chetty from ANC went to the school on an oversight visit and Mqwebu said she would “push” for assistance for the initiative.

The mayor and her team, who were met by principal Audrey Ryan and her management team, said she will try and ease any challenges that arise during the building process.

The purpose of the visit was for the DoE to appraise the progress with regard to the construction of the new school building.

The school governing body welcomes the interest and support of stakeholders, saying they welcome Chetty, a humanitarian and activist on the South Coast.

“Mr Chetty has also been active in assisting the school to get to this point,” they said.

The proposed school plan was presented to the mayor by Chetty, who advised that tendering and bidding processes are being finalised and a contract will be awarded to a construction company soon.

“As soon as all processes are finalised construction will begin at the school,” said Chetty.
