THE driver of a minibus taxi lost control of his vehicle, causing it to land on its side in a river on Wednesday morning.

Sixteen people were injured as a result.

The accident occurred on the P200 near Izotsha.

Emergency services were dispatched to the scene to find patients scattered in the river and some still trying to get out of the taxi.

“Eleven had serious injuries and another five were treated with moderate injuries,” said Kwazulu Private Ambulance spokesperson, Belinda Catchpole.

Specialised equipment was used to rescue the patients after which they were then stabilised and transported to various hospitals. - Supplied.
