THE Scottburgh MTB held last Sunday was a tough, raw and adventurous ride. The riders returned covered in mud and tired as the hundreds of spectators that decided to visit the beachfront and wait for the winners to cross the line cheered them on.

In the women’s main 40km race it was a tight race between Hayley Smith and Bianca Haw who were both looking for their third title. In the end, Haw emerged victorious at 01:54:38, beating Smith by more than 10 minutes. Smith came in at 02:04:44. Smith has is the leading woman in the South Coast Fever MTB Series 2017 as she has won the first two legs.

The men’s 40km race was won by Andrew Hill who also won the Sardine MTB Race in Port Edward last month.
