Municipal manager’s arrogance is mind-boggling

2016-06-02 06:00

THE sheer arrogance of Xolani Luthuli (Umdoni Municipality manager) to state that there is no legislation that forces the municipality to inform the public of important proposals and decisions, is mind-boggling to say the least (Stink over cash for trash, 19 May).

The decision to import trash is not to be taken lightly. All kinds of viruses, insects and bacteria can be imported with this waste, which can lead to illnesses and possible destruction of our crops.

This proposal should surely be discussed at national level with input from medical, agricultural and scientific researchers. No municipality should be allowed to make a decision that could possibly affect the whole of South Africa in both the health and agricultural sectors.
