Municipal ward committees to be elected

2016-10-20 06:00

MUNICIPAL ward committee members for Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) will soon be elected in their respective wards.

Last Tuesday in a council meeting at chambers, councillors agreed that each ward will only five committee members.

RNM speaker councillor Doctor Njoko said as discussed previously in council each ward is only allowed to have five members, no more, as financial implications need to be considered.

Njoko said salary packages for committee members had not yet been established or finalised, however, they were discussed at a recent speakers’ conference.

As per the proposed programme for ward committee elections submitted in August there have been consultations with councillors regarding times and venues.

“Due to time constraints most of the elections will run concurrently, and councillors are not obliged to attend all meetings,” said Njoko.

Councillors adopted the proposed programme and it was agreed that elections will take place from 17 October to 31 October.
