Municipality improves its audit outcome

2015-12-10 06:00

UGU District municipality has received an unqualified audit finding for the financial year 2014/15. An unqualified audit outcome translates to Auditor-General being satisfied that the municipality’s financial records and statements were fairly and appropriately presented in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.

This good audit outcome is attributed to a combination of various factors - sound financial management, leadership, strong political will and transparent administration of the municipality. This will also serve as a positive barometer for the municipality in measuring its progress towards Operation 2015/16 Clean Audit.

Two municipal entities - Ugu South Coast Tourism and Ugu Development Agency - also received a clean and an unqualified audit opinion respectively, and this served as another feather in the cap of the Ugu District municipality.

Mayor Cllr NH Gumede attributed these audit outcomes of the municipality and its two entities to prudent compliance with the financial and audit management systems and processes.

“As leadership of the municipality, we have strengthened our oversight controls and have taken a zero tolerance to non-compliance. Our objective is to ensure that the audit outcome in strongly connected with our commitment of accelerated and tangible service delivery to our communities. Having achieved this improved audit outcome, the next step will be to ensure that we tirelessly work toward achieving the clean audit,” said Gumede.

Ugu District Municipality will continue to promote working together to create an environment that is friendly, responsive, accountable, effective and efficient for our communities.
