Municipality renaming ‘costly’ - RNM

2016-11-24 06:03

THE renaming of the former Hibiscus Coast Municipality brings with it a number of changes, all of which will cost money.

The amalgamation of the Ezinqolweni and Hibiscus Coast Municipalities was reborn and named Ray Nkonyeni Municipality (RNM) after the August by-elections.

The Fever contacted Simon April, RNM spokesperson, and asked him what the name change will cost.

He could not provide any figures, but said in his response that it was going to be a “costly exercise”.

“We are aware that corporate branding is really a costly exercise, but what will happen is that we are going to introduce it in phases as we don’t have plenty of money in this regard.”

He said part of the costs for this purpose will come from the Demarcation Grant, which the municipality received.

“This grant will be used to deal with these issues, among other things,” he added.

Fever also asked about duplicate job positions and what will happen in this case.

“All employees have been placed in their positions and that is settled. The only challenge was the position of the municipal manager,” said April.

However this was resolved as former Ezinqoleni municipal manager Mandla Mabece was appointed CEO of the South Coast Development Agency.

Maxwell Mbili, who was municipal manager for Hibiscus Coast Municipality, was placed in the position of RNM municipal manager.
