INDIAN culture music artist, Vernon Govender, held a “thank-you God” prayer at the Ramnarayan Temple on Saturday, with 200 people in attendance.

His religious belief is that he should be thankful for everything that happens in his life.

At the prayer Govender thanked God for saving his life after he was involved in an accident, and he also thanked God after being recently admitted to ICU.

“On my way back from Durban, travelling on the M4, the driver of the vehicle I was travelling with failed to stop behind a stationary vehicle on the road, and we crashed into it. I thought it was God who saved me.

“The second incident was when I was admitted to Hibiscus Hospital after feeling sick while travelling to Durban.

“I decided to go to hospital and when I got there my temperature was so high I couldn’t get out the car, and landed up in ICU.”

He said he thanked God again for guiding him through.

“I counted my blessings twice, and by doing that I find by being grateful to God, my blessings are doubled.”

Govender also thanked Mother Saraswathie, the mother he surrenders to at the prayer.

“All my thanks and gratitude I place and surrender at the feet of Mother Saraswathie [an Indian goddess]. She has given me the talent and grace to become a musician and pursue my love and passion for the arts.

“Mother Saraswathie has also helped me become a music teacher and inspire many children and adults. I am thankful that I can fulfil her legacy and continue spreading love through music and culture. I thank God for my parents and family.

“We should always remember the God we serve, identify and count our blessings, pray, respect and always set goals,”
