New bike fest to replace Harley Bike Week

2016-09-08 06:00

IN a progressive step to expand on the tradition established via Africa Bike Week, stakeholders, the Ray Nkonyeni Municipality and Ugu South Coast Tourism have announced that a new event, to be called South Coast Bike Fest, is to take place at the end of April 2017.

Following the non-committal for a further period by Harley-Davidson East Africa and Middle East the institutional partners have ensured that there is a new and enhanced motor bike event on the South Coast.

This new initiative is meant to broaden the appeal for the widespread biking fraternity and that it also befits the South Coast as one of the best tourist destinations of choice with its holiday and leisure offerings.

This new South Coast Bike Fest will retain most of the fantastic activities of the past and the event precinct will remain free to bikers, bike fans and all who will be visiting the area.

Margate will remain the main event venue with the programme designed to encourage widespread visitation of the district.

“Our area has significantly benefitted from the valued influx of thousands of bikers and bike fans to our coast and the hinterland so we are upbeat that we are in the position to sustain the positive relationship between our destination and the motorbike enthusiasts,” said

Ray Nkonyeni Municipality Municipal Manager, Max Mbili.

Ugu South Coast Tourism CEO Justin Mackrory added that all great events have a permanent home and the intention is to ensure that Margate and South Coast at large remain a magnate for the motorbike community in the “paradise of the Zulu kingdom”.

“We cannot ignore the importance of the economic benefit to our tourism economy through an event of this magnitude hence the announcement of this new event that is aimed at accommodating various makes of motor bike and an extended market of bike enthusiasts,” said Mackrory.

This new South Coast Bike Fest Brand will be officially launched once certain event management arrangements have been formalised.

We have been taught that we need three meals a day in order to make it through the day and while most of us indulge in more than our fair share there is a large portion of South Africans who are living off barely enough to sustain them.
