PROTEA Park, near Albersville, now has a park for residents. Although incomplete, families and children use the park’s facilities every day.

Youth In Action, a group of youngsters, started the project at the beginning of the year.

The park has been fitted with swings and a braai area.

“There is more work to be done and we are waiting on the Hibiscus Coast Municipality to complete this project. We are grateful to them for the work they have done so far,” said Calyn Pillay who is a member of the group.

Security measures still have to be put in place and bins and lighting is still missing.

There are also plans for a walking or running track, however the area designated for this still needs to be tarred.

“It’s so good to see residents, especially the children, come and enjoy the facilities at the park. There is still work to be done, but we will get there,” said Pillay.

Union Plant Hire sponsored the grading of the property and has removed some of the dense bush.

Youth In Action would like to assist other youth or organisations in other areas, with projects such as this.

“Our aim is to have a facility like this in every suburb for locals to enjoy,” he said.
