Pensioner robbed over the weekend

A 72-YEAR-OLD woman was attacked in her Marburg home in the early hours of Saturday morning when a man forced open the door and entered the house.

The incident occurred at about midnight while she was asleep. The man dragged the pensioner outside into a nearby plantation on Deepvale Road, where he attempted to rape her.

“He then fled taking cash and her cellphone. Police are investigating a house robbery and attempted rape case,” said police spokesperson, Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

Wiid added that in this case, the man forced open the door, but there are precautionary measures that residents can take.

“Residents should ensure that overgrown verges and similar areas are reported to the authorities to be cleaned as criminals can hide and watch from the bushes,” she said.

“There should be enough light on the premises and even in the street during the night. Faulty street lights or the absence of street lights should be brought to the attention of the authorities. Join the neighbourhood watch in your area for support,” added Wiid.
