Pink Couch event on Saturday

THE Rape Crisis Centre could do with your help during the 16 Days of Activism For No Violence Against Women and Children campaign.

The campaign began on 25 November with the aim of creating awareness about and eradicating gender based violence.

Tessa Green, owner of the WoW Institue, will host another Tessa and Friends on The Pink Couch on this Saturday at Palm Manor on Old St Faith’s Road in Umtentweni at 5.30pm for 6pm. Cost is R50 per person.

She started The Pink Couch fund-raisers after realising that no matter how different women are, there’s often one thing that they have in common.

“When the heels are off and the power suit is put away or when the broom and duster is put down at the end of the day, we all face the same challenges,” she said,

“For some it’s abuse, loneliness, fear of the future, lack self-confidence. We cry, we have broken hearts, we have failed, succeeded, we’re mothers, sisters, daughters all with the same struggles that affect us as women.”

In addition to the cover charge to the event, Green has one other request.

“All I request is that everyone brings a pamper pack of essentials. When someone is raped, their panties are taken away for forensic testing.”

“ Let’s help these women get back whatever little dignity they have left and fuel the courage and within them to take the next step,” said Green.

“The event is scheduled for the evening as abuse mainly happens in the dark. We’re hoping to shed some light on the topic, which is very close to my heart,” she said.
