Police operation yields big bounty

SAPS in the Ugu cluster kept criminals on their toes over the weekend when they conducted operations in the area.

They were assisted by the SAPS Airwing, Public Order Policing members, Tactical Response Team members, reservists, Road Traffic Inspectorate, Home Affairs and Ray Nkonyeni Law Enforcement members.

The operations took place on 27 and 28 January.

During these operations, various station areas were targeted.

Arrests were made for drug-related cases, rape, burglary, theft, attempted murder, assault and malicious damage to property.

Five illegal immigrants were arrested and eight people were charged for driving under the influence of alcohol.

A woman was arrested for being in possession of 45 parcels of dagga weighing 398 grams with a street value R600 in the Hibberdene area.

Police also confiscated three firearms and made three arrests in these cases.

A 23-year-old man was arrested in Port Shepstone CBD with a home-made firearm on Friday.

A 28-year-old man was arrested in Dududu on Sunday, carrying a pistol and an empty magazine.

In Ezinqoleni a 44-year-old man was arrested by police on Monday at 1.30am in Wosiyana ward.
He was also found in possession of an unlicensed firearm, a 7.65 mm pistol­ and three rounds of ammunition.

All three will appear in court soon for possession of an unlicensed firearm.

Other items that were confiscated included clothing, a toolbox, a dash-mounted blue light, liquor, knives and a panga.
