CONSTABLE Manqoba Zulu (30), who is stationed at Margate Police Station is in a critical condition at Netcare St Augustine Hospital in Durban after he was attacked and beaten by a group of men in the early hours of Sunday morning.

Police spokesperson Captain Gerald Mfeka has confirmed that Zulu’s condition is critical as he suffered severe head injuries.

Mfeka said Zulu was attacked while off-duty and was at a Gamalakhe tavern when he allegedly got into an argument with a group of men.

“Zulu was rushed to Gamalakhe Clinic that morning and was later transferred to Margate Hospital as his condition was very critical. From there he was transferred to St Augustine Hospital in Durban,” said Mfeka.

He said an attempted murder case was opened that day.

“On Tuesday Gamalakhe detectives arrested a 36-year-old male in connection with the attack and he appeared at Ramsgate Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday,” said Mfeka.

The outcome was not available at the time of going to press. Mfeka said investigations are continuing to find the other suspects.
