Religion, the serious way of handling reality

2016-08-25 06:00

PLEASE allow me to respond to the unidentified atheist, authoring a letter dated 11 August (Archaic beliefs and brainwashing).

The onus is on the atheist to disprove the existence of God. The rational Prophet Jesus rightly said that “man does not live by bread alone”.

Professor Whitehead acutely remarked, “God is subtle but he is not malicious”.

The Quran takes up the scientific and philosophical conception of nature as a rationally ordered whole and wants to make it the pivotal point of its argument for the existence of God. The Quran says to study the marvellous adaptations of life and the rationale in the working of nature anywhere.

Even the study of the anatomy of the camel and its wonderful adaptation to its surroundings will lead man to believe in a rational and good God. The Muslim sage, Iqbal in his profound article, Self in the light of relativity, logically extended Einstein’s Theory of Relativity to prove the existence of God. Because Einstein does not destroy the objectivity of external reality, as unrelated to the frame of reference of the observer, there must be an “absolute self” not determined by spatio-temporal relations to which it ceases nto be opposed as a “confronting other.” This absolute self is God. Religion, which is essentially a mode of actual living, is the only serious way of handling reality.
