THE Selborne Golf Estate in Pennington is to host the KwaZulu-Natal Ladies Golf Association (KZNLGA) Inter-Club Championship from today, 27 to 29 October, a first for Selborne.

“This is an extremely special event as Kwa-Zulu-Natal was the first to initiate a ladies’ inter-club championship and it is still certainly the biggest event on our calendar,” said KZNLGA president, Yvonne Otto.

“It started with the gold and silver divisions in 1952, with the bronze division added in 1959 because of its popularity. It’s a fantastic opportunity for all lady golfers, of all abilities, to participate in the sport we all love.”

Otto said the association was excited to be heading to Selborne for the three-day competition.

The event is hosted at a different venue every year in an effort to support all the clubs in the province. The number of teams entered by a club is determined by membership numbers, and the competition will be played in a foursome format.

Last year’s winners, Lizzie Currie and Kim Strauss from Port Shepstone Country Club, will be returning to defend their title.

Strauss said she is happy to be playing in the annual tournament again.

“It’s really great because, besides the golf, you get to meet so many new people and make new friends. It’s just a very special event.”

The inter-club championship today will begin with tee-off at 6.45am.

Each team will play 54 holes throughout the tournament with a dinner and prize giving on Saturday, 29 October at 7pm, following close of play. – Supplied.
