A 28-YEAR-OLD man, who terrorised business owners in Gcilima, Kwa Nzimakwe and Mankuntshane by robbing their shops, was recently put behind bars at the Pietermaritzburg High Court.

Thabane Ncane committed these crimes during April 2015 and several cases of robbery were registered with Margate SAPS.

Constable Zolile Sibisi was assigned the dockets. She established that in most of the cases the modus operandi was the same, as he robbed foreign shop owners.

With the assistance of Port Shepstone K9, Local Criminal Record Centre and senior detective members, Ncane was arrested on 24 April, 2015.

“The cases were heard in the Pietermaritzburg High Court and Thabane Ncane was convicted on 2 June and sentenced on 8 June,” said police spokesperson Lieutenant-Colonel Zandra Wiid.

He had four cases against him with a total of eight counts including robbery with aggravating circumstances (four), attempted murder (three) and murder (one).

He was sentenced to life imprisonment for murder and a total of 80 years for the counts of attempted murder and robbery with aggravating circumstances.

“Newly appointed cluster commander Major-General Sethenya Nxamagele is impressed with the hard work of Constable Zolile Sibisi and others and the outstanding sentence obtained in this case,” said Wiid.
