Shopping mall banks robbed

2016-09-29 06:00

THE small town of Scottburgh came to a standstill on Wednesday morning after a group of 10 robbers allegedly robbed two bank safes in the Scottburgh Mall.

An undisclosed sum of money was stolen from Absa and FNB.

According to media reports, the highly skilled group were armeed with R5 and AK47 assault rifles.

There was apparently a shoot-out between police and the robbers before they fled the scene.

The road leading to the mall was closed for a few hours while police swept the scene for evidence.

Official comment from SAPS could not be obtained at the time of going to press despite several attempts. - Supplied.
