Solution to licencing queues suggested

2016-02-04 06:00

AFTER hundreds of complaints about the endless queues to renew or apply for driver’s licences, the municipality has plans to remedy the situation.

Municipal spokesperson Simon April said the municipality has applied to the Department of Transport for additional satellite offices.

The municipality also asked the department to decentralise the service and open offices in Hibberdene, Gamalakhe, Margate, Leisure Bay, Port Edward and Ezinqoleni to eliminate pressure on the Port Shepstone office, said April.

If the application is approved, existing municipal buildings will be used for the new offices.

When asked if this means job creation, April said existing staff will be deployed to the new premises, however, if the situation warrants it, additional staff will be employed.

April said that bad service or rude staff will not be tolerated.

“All we can do is apologise and request people to report bad service or rude staff to the supervisor. We do not condone such behaviour and encourage staff to abide by the Batho Pele principles.”

He said the municipality has received compliments about the department and believe that the staff have improved the way they deal with the public.
