ARTWAY Productions is a film and television production company, founded in 2014 by Phumlani Khusi, who is originally from Gcilima.

He currently lives in Durban.

The 25-year-old entrepreneur studied video technology at the Durban University of Technology after he completed matric at Phathwa High.

Khusi says he developed his passion for media, specifically television, after landing roles in primary school plays.

“I initially wanted to pursue acting as a career until my sister advised me to rather choose something behind the scenes. I did my research and came across video technology.”

After a year of Artway’s existence, Khusi got an opportunity to film the a music video with the South Coast award-winning musician, Happy Mdunjane.

“After Mdunjane saw my short film on the internet, he contacted me. The music video was a success and it later caught the attention of a local businessman, Thulani Bhengu, who then decided to invest in the company.”

Khusi said Bhengu’s investment gave Artway the push it needed to compete in the professional market.

“Today the company has offices at the SmartXchange Business Centre in Durban and has shot numerous music videos, including the South Coast’s Sisanda, who sings Indlela yami and that of Nate, a hip-hop artist also from the South Coast.

Artways is now producing a feature film, in partnership with Star Set TV, and will be released between April and May 2017.

Artway Production recently hosted auditions for an educational drama production at Uvongo Community Hall.

The drama is a partnership with Ray Nkonyeni Municipality and will be filmed in the next few weeks.

Khusi said he will continue with talent searches on the South Coast and will be developing the talent further if he has the power.
