UGU District Municipality held a “disability summit” last Wednesday at Margate Hotel where people living with disabilities took part in developing a five-year Disability Implementation Plan. This document entails all programmes to be implemented within the five-year period from the adoption date in January 2018.

The plan includes programmes by Ugu and Ray Nkonyeni municipalities and sector departments in the district.

Ugu M)ayor Cllr Mondli Chiliza donated working material and tools to four co-operatives owned by people with disabilities.

The mayor committed to ensuring that the municipality in collaboration with other local municipalities in the district intensify commitment to programmes aimed at assisting those living with disabilities.

“Our municipality has made financial provision for such programmes and we will continue ensuring that the needs of people with disabilities are prioritised,” said Chiliza.
