SAN Lameer beach was the venue of choice for KwaZulu-Natal to celebrate Tourism Month on the lower South Coast.

MEC for the Department of Economic Development, Tourism and Environmental Affairs, Sihle Zikalala, said at the event on Tuesday that he had thoroughly enjoyed the places he had visited.

He said the Oribi Gorge was a stunning venue and encouraged locals to be tourists in their own towns and cities.

“You must first tour your own town and city before you visit any others,” he said.

He said the South Coast was a prime example of what a tourist destination should be with it’s lodges, hotels, seven Blue Flag beaches and numerous activities.

Zikala added that KZN was proud to boast that it is leading in domestic destinations.

“In KZN, there is something for everyone. If you come from India, you will visit places like the Drakensburg, the beaches and other places. But you will make sure you go to Ghandi Settlement,” he said.

“There are many cultural aspects to KZN,” he said.

He added that tourism should not only be recognised in September, but throughout the year.

“I encourage everyone to explore, and enjoy tourism.”
