Technology upgrade for municipality

2016-10-27 06:00

AT a council meeting on Tuesday, it transpired that Ray Nkonyeni Municipality will be drafting a Memorandum of Understanding with Ericsson South Africa whose main headquarters are in Sweden, this in order to maximise service delivery and boost its network infrastructure as far as information technology communication is concerned.

Ray Nkonyeni mayor Nomusa Mqwebu said the municipality’s intention with Ericsson is to upgrade the network infrastructure and to maximise the scope of adapting to technology innovations in order to have a safe and secure network environment, which will in turn, attract the investors and visitors.

This private sector company has been conducting a situational analysis focusing on areas, which include Margate and Port Shepstone surveillance centres, where they identified challenges pertaining to old infrastructure that is limited only at viewing the visuals and cannot reverse nor record visual incidents as per the new technology.

“Ericsson’s presentation was not limited to electronic network machines, it also focused on transport, public safety and the network’s curbing crime initiative, which ensures a safe and secure environment.

“Once the situation analysis has been completed by Ericsson, the recommendations and the Memorandum of Understanding will be submitted to the Executive committee for approval,” said Mqwebu. - Supplied.
