ON June 25, the World Karate Federation (WKF) Ugu region honoured the late Shihan Cas Pretorius by dedicating their annual winter karate tournament to his memory.

Shihan Pretorius died a few months ago. Sensei Frank Moodley said WKF Ugu is affiliated to Karate KwaZulu-Natal and Karate South Africa, the only recognised organisation that can award provincial and national colours.

Participants at the tournament ranged in age from five to veteran.

“A positive and inspiring spirit was on show at this tournament with karateka showing great improvement, true sportsmanship and true karate bushido,” said Moodley.

Moodley said a high standard of karate is developing on the South Coast. Selection from this tournament will be made for a WKF Ugu region to participate at the Karate KwaZulu-Natal Development trials to be held in Durban this month.
