ALMOST 40 runners came down to the Clearwater Trail Centre in Port Edward on Sunday morning to take part in the five-kilometre trail run.

Organised for the last Sunday of every month, the free fun run is attracting both professional and amateur athletes. Event co-ordinator, Mark Thornton-Smith of One Way, said the run is gaining momentum and after it was launched on 31 October the numbers have close to doubled.

"The weather was fantastic with sun and blue skies. Everyone enjoyed the scenic route and view of the Umtamvuna River gorge.

“Joshua Morrison-Young finished the run in the fastest time of 20:20," said Thornton-Smith.

He said the goal of this social event is to build a strong trail running community who can attend future local races. "No entry fee is charged, which is normally R20, and it’s an opportunity for the family to enjoy a day out together and exercise. Plus you receive free coffee afterwards if you order a breakfast bun."

Due to the busy festive season, the next trail run will be on Sunday, 31 January, 2016. - Supplied.

We have been taught that we need three meals a day in order to make it through the day and while most of us indulge in more than our fair share there is a large portion of South Africans who are living off barely enough to sustain them.
