UGU Film Festival received the “Special Recognition” award for contribution to provincial development at the South African Film and Television Awards in Midrand on Sunday.

Founder and CEO of the Ugu film Festival, Senzo Zindela, said he was surprised when his name was called as the winner of the award, saying he couldn’t believe his “four-year-old baby” has been recognised.

Zindela was nominated for the first time for this award and said winning is only the beginning of great things to come.

“This award is not just a normal award, it is a special one where we are identified as a game changer. Big things will be unfolding from now on.”

Zindela thanked his supporters.

“I would like to thank all my supporters who have been loyal to me when this event was still an idea - Lwandle Ngwenya (ambassador), Hilton Odwyer, Quinton Odweyer, Ivin Naidoo and Nkosikhona Shezi.”

Zindela said the criticism he received from bystanders really pushed him and lifted him thus far and said that from now on people will start believing and realising that this festival is serious and it is here to develop many skills and hopefully bring business to the South Coast.

Zindela invited the community to be part of the festival and attend the workshops.

“Those who want to be part of the festival and exclusive workshops are welcome to register on the website uguff.org or to contact me so I can register them for the workshops, with special guests,” he said.
