Ugu shortlisted for excellence awards

2017-06-29 06:00

UGU District Municipality’s practise of good governance has led to the organisation being among four municipalities in the district that have been shortlisted to compete for the KZN Premier’s Excellence Awards for its best practises for the 2015/16 fiscal year.

The awards ceremony will be held in July and our municipality will be competing for first position against Ulundi, Umzimkhulu and Zululand municipalities in the Best Run Municipality of the Year and Best Municipal Manager of the Year categories.

Our assessment was based on the performance of the municipality in the back-to-basics programme, the audit outcomes, the service delivery and budget implementation plan, human resources management, the integrated development plan, complaints management and risk management.

The Office of the Premier conducted these assessments through information sourced from the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs.

In the past week, an independent panel of assessors and moderators visited our municipality where staff members, including the municipal manager, were interviewed on their contributions towards the implementation of identified areas of assessment.

We are honoured as the municipality to have been shortlisted as finalists for such a prestigious programme that awards service delivery excellence. This is evident that our efforts are making a difference in our communities.

We will continue to ensure that our community development goals are achieved through ensuring the provision of water and sanitation services to both our rural and urban communities in our district.

Ugu District Municipality will continue to promote working together to create an environment that is friendly, responsive, accountable, effective and efficient for our communities.
