THERE will be lots of scoring at the Ugu Sports and Leisure Centre on 14 November, when the Hibiscus Coast Municipality Mayoral Cup kicks off.

Mamelodi Sundowns, Lamontville Golden Arrows, AmaZulu FC and an invitational team from HCM will battle for the ball.

At the launch at Desroches Hotel on Monday, HCM mayor, Cynthia Mqwebu, said the municipality was proud to host such an event as it was the ideal platform for talent scouting.

“There are many young, talented players on the Hibiscus Coast and having big teams come see them play will create an opportunity for them.”

She added that HCM was the only local municipality to host an event of such stature - the other two hosts are district municipalities.

“It’s time we grow young men into professionals.

“These children play soccer every weekend and we as the municipality have to do something to assist them,” she said.

Event organiser, Nhlananipho Mkhize, spoke about the logistics of the event.

A total of 2 600 tickets will be sold through Computicket and Checkers at R60, and 400 will be reserved as complimentary tickets.

Temporal structures will be erected so spectators can watch the matches on the Saturday.

The first match starts at 9am, the second takes place at 11.30am and the finals at 3.30pm.

A gala dinner will be held on the Friday.
