Verge cutters run out of petrol

2015-12-10 06:00

SEVEN staff of the Hibiscus Coast Municipality’s cleansing and maintenance department, who reported for duty on Monday morning, lay idle for over four hours in Sarum Road in Uvongo.

The reason for this, according to a guest house owner in the area, was because the brush cutters did not have petrol.

“I called the supervisor at the Southbroom offices at 9.30am and was told that the cleansing and maintenance department had run out of petrol for the cutters. I was told the petrol was on its way and this will be sorted out,” said the source.

“I then phoned the manager of the department, who was very rude. He told me the staff had worked on Saturday and had ran out of petrol and that they could not buy petrol on the South Coast on Saturday.”

The guest house owner said she watched the staff sit and wait until midday and still nobody came with petrol.

“What sort of manager does not provide his team with the basic tools, such as petrol, which is needed to do the job.”

“I think that the council should take action against the supervisor and the manager. Once again, it’s a total waste of our tax money and our verges still look like a dog’s backside.”

The Hibiscus Coast Municipality was approached for comment, but none was forthcoming at the time of going to print.
